Overview

Buenos Aires has topped the Homefans’ popularity list since the day our journey began.  Now, for 2023 we are offering you a new variation of our best selling tour – which as well as Buenos Aires also spends 3 days in nearby Montevideo, Uruguay.

Spend 8 days in majestic Buenos Aires, the focal point of global football, and the ultimate football capital. It is not merely a football destination; every single game is a national event that commands an unrivalled level of attention. Work becomes secondary, the to-do list is swept to the side and all overhanging bills are thrust to the back reaches of the mind for almost two hours when any club in Argentina steps into the ground. You will experience the capital’s biggest clubs as you attend 2 Argentinian match day experiences.  One for Buenos Aires and one for Independiente, Racing Club or San Lorenzo.

Located only 2 hours by ferry from Buenos Aires, Montevideo is home to football giants Nacional and Penarol. You will spend two days experiencing Montevideo like a true local. With three million people population, Uruguay produces world-class footballers and competes at the best level always. Immerse yourself to the most in-depth Montevideo football scene and learn more about the country that organized the First World Cup and host two of the biggest teams in the world.

You will attend an amazing, local and authentic matchday experience at Nacional or Penarol. The pilgrimage on every home game is the same since 1930 in the First World Cup of football. You will enjoy delicious and traditional barbecue before the match, get to know local supporters and live the country football culture. Montevideo’s postcard includes the myth of ancient football, the national Estadio Centenario from Montevideo. Built-in 1930 for the World Cup, it conserves almost the same structure. Explore the entire football collection and memorabilia from the Uruguayan Football Association and do not miss the opportunity to explore this authentic temple of football!

Our South American trips give you the opportunity to experience amazing football clubs, explore stunning stadiums, drink beers in the finest football bars, enjoy some of the best steaks in the world, discover the culture and enjoy the best football experience of your life. Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Buenos Aires!
Day 1 - Welcome to Buenos Aires!

Be prepared for the most intense and exciting football experience of your life! Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina and home of some of the biggest football clubs in South America. For decades it was considered the most modern capital in the southern continent, comparable to other capitals in Europe.

The city is a mixture of 4 components that makes life so special: Their passion for fútbol (and worship for their idols such as Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Román Riquelme), the nightlife full of great clubs and bars (we’ve been there, and believe, it is THE city that never sleeps) and the pleasure for eating great food and drinking wine!

Today is gathering day, people from all over the world will arrive today at different times. Regardless of that, we have arranged an airport transfer for all of you. A driver's assistant will be outside the customs area with a sign with your names, near the McDonalds in the main hall.

At night, we will organize a steak, beer and wine welcome dinner!

Day 2 - Buenos Aires City Tour
Day 2 - Buenos Aires City Tour

Today will be dedicated to getting to know the city more and have a nice and relaxed city tour through the main sights. We will walk at Caminito in Barrio de Boca, Boca Juniors colourful neighbourhood packed with amazing steaks restaurants, tango shops, a Maradona famous double and of course, La Bombonera! In the last time, our Dutch travellers got to meet Ronald Koeman in front of the stadium!

Then, we will talk through Puerto Madero, a posh area where the river cross and has a lot of bars to hang out for a beer in the afternoon! After that, our local host will take our group to the Recoleta Cemetery, well-known attraction because of the size and important personalities buried over there.

At night, do you fancy some steaks (of course) and wine? We will organise a group dinner!

Day 4 - Independiente / Racing / San Lorenzo Matchday Experience
Day 4 - Independiente / Racing / San Lorenzo Matchday Experience

If we are attending an Independiente or Racing Club match we will head to Avellaneda Area, around 30 minutes from Buenos Aires, home of Independiente and Racing Club. Please note that we will be watching one of both clubs match, because their stadium is separated by 500 meters and for security reasons, they never play on the same day.

If we go to Independiente, our guide will be Guido, a die-hard fan of Independiente who knows the ins and outs of the Stadium as well as the club's history and best players. So you'll be in very good hands.

We'll be going to Southern Buenos Aires to one of the most popular parrillas in town called "El Tano" to taste some Argentinian meat before the game. The place is super relaxed/friendly and the owner is also an Independiente fan.

Independiente is also known as Diablos (Devils), Rey de Copas (King of Cups) or simply Rojo (Red). They are one of the top 5 clubs in Argentina and the club who won the most amount of Libertadores Cups in all South America. The atmosphere is always good and when they are playing attacking football, it is very hard to beat them at home!

Fun Thing: Kung Aguero is an Independiente fan and came from their youth teams to make success in Europe!

If we choose to watch Racing Club, we make sure the atmosphere is among the best in the country. They are known as the Academia - the academy. Their fans are well known for their resilience (this is, their ability to cope with many, many years of suffering) but two seasons ago they finally won the Argentine league so the crowd has a reason to celebrate for.

Our pre-match will be in the Racing side, in a place where fans get together for some beers and burgers. Then, our guides will escort you to your seats and make sure you listen to all the chants and watch some nice football!

Finally, if we go to San Lorenzo, our guide Fabio will take you to the best pre-match experience with local fans and show the Pope's chapel!

Day 3 - Boca Juniors Matchday Experience
Day 3 - Boca Juniors Matchday Experience

Dale Dale Bocaaaaaaaaaa!

The moment you all be waiting for. It is Boca Juniors day!

Get ready for the most intense day of your lives. Make sure you have a full breakfast at the hotel and stretch your legs because it will be a long day.

First, we will stop by a local and authentic Boca Juniors restaurant to have a "parilla" or "asado", an Argentinian Traditional Barbecue. Bring down the bottles of Quilmes and let's have fun! Your guide will be telling and sharing stories about the club, the rivalry with their arch enemies River Plate and get yourselves ready for the match!

The club we'll be supporting is Boca Juniors - who are known as the Xeneize or Bosteros. Boca is the most famous and widely supported team in Argentina and probably all of Latin America, also internationally well-known. They are the only team to have never been relegated from the top division and are synonymous with Argentinian greats like Diego Maradona and Juan Roman Riquelme. They hold 6 Libertadores Cups and one of their greatest achievements was winning the 2000 Intercontinental Cup against Real Madrid's Dream Team (Figo, Raúl, Casillas, Roberto Carlos, McManamann, etc.).

And if that wasn't enough... Boca is the recent champion of the local league! In an epic definition, they got the leadership of the league in the last game, leaving in 2nd place River Plate! So there might be celebrations, songs and flags about the new title.

After being warmed up, we will be ready for some action. Our local guides will distribute your tickets and escort you to your gate. The stadium is always full and sold out, so we will hold our group tight and make our way to the seats. Once there, just make sure you enjoy the chants of "La 12", Boca Juniors well-known Ultras and get ready for the BEST day of your lives!

Day 5 & 6 & 7 - Free Days - Possible other matches
Day 5 & 6 & 7 - Free Days - Possible other matches

Today is a free day to take in all you've seen so far. If schedules permit we may be able to get a Maradona Overdose and attend a stadium tour and match at the Argentinos Juniors stadium, called Diego Armando Maradona. As you may know, the club was Diego Maradona's first club - he was such an exciting prospect that the club gave him a house for his family at the age of just 15 to secure his signature.

The house has now been refurbished into an homage and we'll be visiting it to get a look up close at where 'Díos' (God), ate, slept and hopped out of his window during the night to go to the bathroom! After that, we will head closer to the ground to visit the fan-maintained museum of Argentinos Juniors. Over there, you will have the most amazing tour with unique memories from past glories and a lot of sections dedicated to Maradona.

Now it is time for the pre-match experience! We've booked a table in a local fan-base restaurant where a set menu will be waiting for you and of course, plenty of local beers! Around 1 hour before, we will go to our seats and feel the local atmosphere and amazing football.

Day 8 - Trip to Montevideo & Estadio Centenario Tour
Day 8 - Trip to Montevideo & Estadio Centenario Tour

In the morning, we will take an early ferry to Uruguay. The transportation could go directly to Montevideo or to Colonia to then go by bus to Montevideo. The city is small but with a vibrant atmosphere, home of amazing steaks, wines, the beautiful large avenues surrounded by many restaurants and bars and of course, football.

Montevideo is home of two giants in the South American football scenery: Peñarol and Nacional. From a sight to another, you can see graffiti and paintings representing both clubs, which makes the city very colourful.

We will pay a visit at Estadio Centenário - stage of the first World Cup Final in 1930 and the Football Museum.

At night, we will book a table in one of the most traditional steak houses in the country!

Day 9 - Peñarol or Nacional Matchday Experience
Day 9 - Peñarol or Nacional Matchday Experience

Are you ready to experience Nacional or Peñarol?

We will watch a match at Estadio Gran Parque Central, home of Nacional, built-in 1900, is the oldest in South America or visit to Estadio Campeón del Siglo, home of Peñarol.

Renovated in 2016, the arena is absolutely beautiful and very scary for the opponents. 40,000 hinchas supporting the black and yellow colours turns into a hell for other teams.

Any of them, we will have the best experience!

Important disclaimer: due to the Uruguay fixture last hour modificactions. Peñarol or Nacional game could be modify for an away game or a different team.

Day 10 - Back to Buenos Aires and Optional Activities

In the morning, we will head back to Buenos Aires for the chance to catch another football game in the city or do some further sightseeing.

At night, you can finish with a good quality steak in a very good local restaurant if you are up for that.

Day 11 - Time to Say Goodbye
Day 11 - Time to Say Goodbye

Unfortunately, the trip is coming to an end! Our drivers will be picking you up around 4 hours before the flight departure in front of the hotel. Please make sure you are on time. Will we have a trip manager for the duration of the trip?

For the duration of your stay in Buenos Aires you will have a dedicated trip manager with you in representation of Homefans.  He or she will be your first point of contact before the trip takes place and throughout your stay.

The trip manager will be on hand at a whatsapp message or a call throughout your stay to help you arrange any extra activities you’d like to book, and also to help you arrange airport transfers when the time comes.

How many people will be on the tour?

The maximum number of people allowed on the trip is stated above.

However,  this number may not always be met and it may even be possible that your party is on the tour on your own.

Higher numbers make for a more sociable experience, lower numbers make for more personalised attention from your host. Look at it as a win/win!

Can I change the included matches?

The included matches are final in order to keep the group together – they have been handpicked by Homefans and the local hosts to ensure the best experience.  However,  there are extra matches that could be added throughout your stay – we will be in touch to let you know about the best deals!

Where in the stadium will we be sitting?

If we know where you will be sitting, we always mention this is in the inclusions section for each club and host.

The Ultimate Argentina and Superclásico trips have a 3* hotel as a standard.  For a hotel upgrade, please get in touch with Homefans and we will assist you in this matter at an extra cost.

Will I have to share a room?

In order to keep competitive prices,  the trips on the Homefans marketplace always offer prices based on 2 people sharing.

If you wish to stay on your own in a single room, you may pay a supplement for a guaranteed single room. This can be found on the extras section at checkout and you can add it to the booking. You can also get in touch with us to arrange this.

What happens if I cannot travel?

If you foresee that you cannot longer attend this trip, we appreciate if you let us know with time in advance.

According to our Terms & Conditions , if you tell us 45 days before the trip starts, we can keep your deposit and transfer it to another future trip or use it as credit.  The deposit payment is non-refundable and non-transferrable.

Why are there local hosts on the trips?

Homefans was created to address a pain point we experienced quite often. You travel abroad to watch a sporting event, yet once you arrive, you still feel like an outsider, with a lack of knowledge around the destination and the event.

The local hosts on the Homefans marketplace address this issue by becoming the local link to your trip. They enhance the experience completely, and create that necessary human connection – and will surely become friends in the future!

My first experience with Homefans in Argentina and Uruguay

This was my first experience with Homefans. We visited 6 games in Argentina and went for a daytrip to Montevideo to do some stadium tours. The 6 games in Argentina were all simply amazing. Every host who went with us was very passionate about his/her football team and took the responsibilities for us to arrange the transfers, tickets and to give us a excellent Argentinian football game experience. The daytrip in Montevideo was also must to do. You travel the whole day through Montevideo with the host Liber and visit 3 very nice football stadiums in Montevideo. It was a very good experience with Homefans and they organisated everything really well!
