Derby della Madonnina

Named after the iconic cathedral in Milan city centre, where fans of Internazionale and AC Milan have swarmed to celebrate Scudetto success over the years. The Milan derby stretches back to 1909, and has only gotten stronger over the years. The only derby in Europe between two sides that have both won the European Cup, and after many years of mediocre performances, the Milan giants are back at the top of the table, fighting for silverware.

Intercontinental Derby

A battle between continents. European Galatasaray, against old foes Fenerbahçe – based on the Asian side of the River Bosphorus. The mythical city of Istanbul is amazing for many reasons, but when these sides clash, it heats up even more. Both teams lay claim o some of the most hostile fans on the planet, and an intense rivalry has formed due to their domination of the Turkish game.

This season, Fenerbahçe took home the bragging rights on both occasions, so you can be sure that Gala will be out for revenge. It’s is a battle of religion, politics, and geographical identity, and is one that every football enthusiast must witness first hand.

Pražské Derby

Prague is one of Europe’s premier city-break destinations. With delicious cuisine, cheap beer and spectacular sights, ‘the Golden city’ has it all. And no European capital is complete, without a footballing rivalry to match. Sparta and Slavia Prague are the Czech Republic’s two most successful clubs, with 12 and 7 league titles respectively, and the ultras of each time are always guaranteed to create a rapturous reception for their neighbours, on derby day. The Eternal Derby

Football fans throughout Serbia will point to the capital when it comes to which team they support. Red Star and Partizan Belgrade aren’t just the biggest teams in the Serbian SuperLiga, but prior to the breakup of Yugosavia in 1992, were the biggest sides in the Yugoslav First League as well. It’s only a 12 minute walk between the two stadiums – Red Star’s ‘Marakana’ and the Partisan stadium.

Both fanbases are traditionally from this local Autokomanda neighbourhood, so there is no real political edge to the game. But on derby day, the city grinds to a halt as the fans generate an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the world.

El Derbi Madrileño

Real Madrid snatched back La Liga crown in some style this season, from their neighbours at the Wanda Metropolitano. A comprehensive win for Los Blancos, they also have the chance to add a 14th Champions League title to their trophy room. But while Madridistas may come from all walks of life, lured in by an impressive trophy haul, Atleti have traditionally had a smaller following, of working-class, local fans. And it’s these supporters who turn their stadium in to a caldron on match-day, kicking every ball from the stands and deafening their visitors.
