Football is a pretty big deal here in the UK. In the north, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City all play within roughly 30 miles of each other. Down in London, however, anyone would be forgiven for thinking it’s just one big footie fest, with no less than 7 Premier League clubs calling the capital home!
Founded in 1879, Fulham FC is the oldest football club from London to play in the Football League. Located next to Bishop’s Park on the banks of the River Thames, Craven Cottage, was originally a royal hunting lodge and has a history dating back over 300 years.
Fulham supporters have played a vital role in the club’s long term stay at Craven Cottage. When the club moved temporarily to Loftus Road, a committee known as “Back to the Cottage” was formed, to ensure the club continued to play at their traditional home. Their fans pride themselves for being the original and oldest London club. And they are not wrong. The Cottagers are built more like a family and the way they usually operate is quite different from big and rich clubs, such as their biggest rivals, Chelsea.
