Join me on an exclusive tour through Rosario, one of the cradles of Argentine football, and explore the legendary Newell’s Old Boys!
Club Visit – Newell’s Old Boys
Nestled in the heart of Rosario’s green oasis, Independence Park, you’ll find the iconic Newell’s Old Boys stadium, affectionately known as “El Coloso del Parque.” In 2009, fans voted to honor Marcelo Bielsa by renaming it, though its legendary nickname still remains.
Founded as a school in the early 1900s, Newell’s is renowned for producing some of Argentina’s finest talents, boasting the most national youth titles in the AFA. Legends such as Gabriel Batistuta, Walter Samuel, Mauricio Pochettino, Maxi Rodríguez, and Gabriel Heinze all came through Newell’s, not to mention Lionel Messi, who began his journey in the club’s youth academy.
During this tour, we’ll explore the stadium surroundings, dive into Newell’s rich history, and visit football murals that showcase the club’s legacy, including the famous Diego Maradona memorial—a player we were fortunate to call our own for a short time.
Follow Messi’s Early Days in Rosario
Rosario is Messi’s home, and the city exploded with joy when Argentina lifted the World Cup after 36 years. On this tour, we’ll visit La Bajada, the neighborhood where Messi grew up and honed his skills on the streets. It’s now a pilgrimage site, adorned with towering murals, messages of love, and memories shared by residents. I’ll share stories of Messi’s early life and his connection to Rosario.
Santa Fe Sports Museum
We’ll also take a short detour to the Santa Fe Sports Museum, home to memorabilia from football greats like Di Maria, Mascherano, Lavezzi, and of course, Messi.
Come and experience the passion of Rosario’s football culture—where legends are born.
I´m Juan. I was born in Rosario , the cradle of many Argentinian football talents, but now I live in Buenos Aires . "Banderazos" (fan supporting days), picados (kickabout ), asados ( barbecues) , pre-match drinks along with chants are part of the amazing Argentinian football atmosphere. Let’s take a journey together!
