Join me on a tour through the memory and history of football in Brazil in one of our oldest and biggest stadiums, Pacaembu.

The Paulo Machado de Carvalho Municipal Stadium in Pacaembu, São Paulo, completed 80 years of history in April 2020. Conceived from the outset as a sports venue with multiple functions, such as cultural and leisure spaces, Pacaembu was Brazil’s largest stadium until the inauguration of Maracanã in 1950. Since 2011, it is also the home of the Football Museum.

At the museum you can find an extensive and exclusive collection in audiovisual and interactive pieces concerning highlights of the historical memory of soccer in São Paulo and in Brazil. The museum constantly receives temporary expositions and events as well, such as Toy Soccer, or Soccer shirt collectors’ meeting, that happens at November 18th from 9AM.

At the tour, we’ll meet at the nearest metro station or directly in the Charles Miller Square, where the Stadium is located. In the Square, on tuesdays and thursdays happens a street fair, where you can find some of the stars of São Paulo’s gastronomic culture, such as sugarcane juice, pastel and coconut water. A great opportunity to get to know essential elements of Brazilian customs up close.

Ideal for spending an afternoon, the tour of Pacaembu is beautiful, peaceful and enjoyable, from the stunning architecture, to the incredible and exclusive memories that the museum offers, to the culinary delights in front of and inside the stadium, in the Bubu restaurant and cafe, nicknamed after the last syllable of the space’s name.
