For entry to the stadium you will need to prove you are double-vaccinated.

Last update:  01 December

As with for many of its neighbours, football is a way of life in Colombia. Even through turbulent times, football has been able to unite people.  Discover Colombia’s passion for football and delve into the fascinating and alluring history and culture on this two-centre Colombia football tour.

Start your adventure with 6 days in Medellin.  Nestled in a fertile valley, Medellin’s rocky past needs no introduction and we will find out more during our time here; however we focus on the football and two of Colombia’s finest clubs; Deportivo Indepentiente Medellin (DIM) and Athletico Nacional.  We will have a matchday experience at both clubs and will even watch a training session for Athletico Nacional.  We will also take a day trip to the spectacular town of Guatape.

We spend our last 5 days in the Andean city of Bogota – one of the most high-altitude capitals in the world.  We have a matchday experience at the mighty Millionarios as well as a trip to Montserrat and a chance to play a traditional game of Tejo with locals.

Accommodation, matches and sightseeing are all included in the price.  In each city you will be with an expert local host who is both an ambassador for their city and a passionate football fan – they will help you have a truly local, authentic experience.  Plus you will share this trip with a small group of like-minded football fans, creating an experience which is enjoyable, memorable and connected.

Now open for 2022 dates – Book with total flexibility and security.

Homefans is excited to be reopening this tour for sale.  The tour will operate monthly from February 2022 and you can secure your place with a small deposit.

Fixtures are not available yet and therefore the itinerary given is an indication and subject to change.  But whatever date you pick you are guaranteed 3 unforgettable matchday experiences.  As soon as the fixtures are confirmed we will be in touch to confirm your match schedule.

However, in the event that fans are not admitted, if you have made a booking the amount paid simply becomes Homefans credit.  You can transfer this to a later date (with no time limit), transfer to another tour, or even give it to a friend.

This flexibility is also offered if for any reason you decide you are not comfortable travelling. For more information visit our “book with confidence” page

Itinerary

Day 1. Welcome to Colombia

We hope you are prepared for the trip of a lifetime. We have an amazing 11 days planned. But today is for meet and greet. We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to the hotel we have booked for the group where you can get to know your host and yellow travellers. In the evening we will head to a local bar for a welcome evening.

Day 2. Watch Atletico Nacional Train

During this trip, you'll have an exclusive opportunity to have a look behind the scenes at the training ground of Atlético Nacional in Guarne. Club Atlético Nacional S. A. is a Colombian professional football team based in Medellín. The club is one of only three teams to have played in every first division tournament in the country's history, the other two teams being Millonarios and Santa Fe. Considered to be one of the strongest clubs from Colombia, it is one of the most consistent clubs in the country. Atlético Nacional is the most successful team in Colombia and has won 16 league titles, four Copa Colombia and two Superliga Colombiana. It was also the first Colombian club to win the Copa Libertadores - they have won it twice.

See a first-team training live, meet the players and learn more about the history of this football club with a tour through their training facilities.

Day 3. DIM Matchday Experience

PLEASE NOTE - YOUR MATCHDAY EXPERIENCE MAY BE MOVED TO ANOTHER DAY IN THE MATCH SCHEDULE BASED ON MATCH SCHEDULE

Today we will be joining the fans of Deportivo Independiente Medellin (DIM) for a matchday which promises to be fiery and colourful, Before the match your local hosts will take you to the area where the DIM fans congregate to soak in the pre-match party atmosphere

Day 4. Atletico Nacional Matchday Experience

PLEASE NOTE - YOUR MATCHDAY EXPERIENCE MAY BE MOVED TO ANOTHER DAY IN THE MATCH SCHEDULE BASED ON MATCH SCHEDULE

Another matchday. Today, along with 40,000 other fans we head to the Estadio Atanasio Girardot for a Atletico Nacional matchday – and we are going to make sure you have the full experience. We will meet up with the home fans to enjoy all the pre-match build up, along with some drinks and local food, before taking our seats for the main event.

Day 5. Medellin Sightseeing and Graffiti Tour

Today is all about getting under the skin of Medellín; we will take a sightseeing tour of the city and discover how it has transformed from one of the most dangerous cities on earth to one of the most forward-looking and creative.

One particular area of Medellín, a neighbourhood called Comuna 13, also known as San Javier, has the most tumultuous history of the city, once labelled the most dangerous community due to its astronomical homicide rates and its forced displacement of thousands of residents. It is now a redeveloped, vibrant area known for its street art.

Day 6. Day trip to Guatapé

No trip to Antioquia is complete without at least a day spent wandering through the colourful streets of Colombia's most colourful town. Guatapé is the perfect place to visit to get away from the hustle and bustle of Medellín. The main reason that people visit Guatapé is to climb the famous Rock of Guatapé – also known as El Peñol Rock – to enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding islands and lakes of the artificial Guatapé reservoir.

FAQs

Will the stadiums be open in 2021/22? At what capacity?

Homefans believe that stadiums will be open to fans, however we cannot at this stage confirm what the capacity will be.  However our flexible booking policies mean that if the stadium will only accept 50% fans and you decide you only want to travel with 100% attendance you can swap to another venue or another date.

Will I need to prove I am vaccinated? Or show a negative test?

This will vary destination to destination and based on your nationality and age. Therefore Homefans are not able to advise on this.  Please check the foreign ministry of your destination and home country and the stadium requirements.  Again, if you find the requirements too much you can defer to later in the season/year when they relax further.

COVID-19 hasn’t gone away- should I still book?

We believe so, we all need something to look forward to.  But we understand that people may be apprehensive which is why we have created a flexible cancellation policy which means in the event that the event does not happen the amount paid simply becomes Homefans credit.

You can transfer this to a later date (with no time limit), transfer to another tour, or even give it to a friend. This flexibility also applies if you decide to cancel for any reason (as long as you give us 45 days notice)

Do I have to pay the full amount when I book?

No, you can secure your place with a deposit of just 30%, then pay the balance at least 4 weeks before your trip date depending on your destination.

Where in the stadiums will we be sitting?

If we know where you will be sitting we always mention this is in the inclusions section.

Unfortunately we are not always able to tell you that at the time of booking, however our destination managers work tirelessly to make sure you get the best seats. We always aim for the long side of the home supporters section.

How many people will be on the tour?

The maximum number of people the host will allow is stated above. However this number may not always be met and it may even be possible that your party is on the tour on your own. Higher numbers make for a more sociable experience, lower numbers make for more personalised attention from your host. Look at it as a win/win!

Can children / young adults join the tour?

If we can accept children there will be an option in the booking flow. However for many trips our local hosts take the decision, based on the content of the tour, to open this up to adults only. If you are looking to travel with under 18’s, please feel free to contact us and we can discuss your options.

Can you cater to dietary needs or requirements?

Our local hosts will do everything they can to cater to travellers’ needs. It’s a good idea to share your requirements at the time of booking so that our host is able to make the required preparations

Will I have to share a room?

In order to keep the costs low we always offer prices based on 2 sharing. If you make a booking for an odd number of people you or another member of your party may be paired with another traveller of the same sex. If you wish you may pay a supplement for a guaranteed single room. Simply make your booking as normal and get in touch with us to arrange this.
