The city is an enchanting fusion of history. Both frantic and serene. Gritty and beautiful. From the intimidating Mount Vesuvius to the tranquil Naples Bay. While the pizza is considered as the best in the world, the city has one other thing going for it: their football team, SSC Napoli.
Naples is a city often overlooked by people, as there are many rumors it’s unsafe. But sometimes, when it comes to travel, you shouldn’t believe everything you hear. Naples will give you a true taste of Italy and the football culture. We invite you to join our small group to Naples to experience the fan culture in Naples.
27 – 29 October 2018 (8 spots available for this trip)
It’s on matchday that Naples really comes alive. The bars and coffee shops, countless adorned with tributes to Maradona and proudly displaying the blue of Napoli, filled with fans in high anticipation of the match. For locals it’s a chance to come together, to forget the troubles in life. They get there early to set-up the Curva and ready themselves to support the team.
Flares are common and chants are passed from Curva to Curva. One sings, one stops. One starts, the other listens. Their god, el Diego, is always a crucial part of their match day chats. Experience the football culture at its best in Naples with a small group of travelers, an absolute highlight of your football season.
Trapped between the heavenly Tyrrhenian Sea and the hellish prospect of Mount Vesuvius erupting again, it’s a place where waiting is commonplace. Waiting for its football club to relive the glory days; waiting for the north-south divide to be bridged, and waiting for the return of adopted son Diego Maradona to its shores. Welcome to Naples!
Naples is a place where the impact of football extends far beyond the game. From the heroes of – Maradona, Bruscolotti, and Ferrara – to the stars like Dries Mertens and Marek Hamšík that dominate the scene today, the club and the city are intrinsically tied with a piece of string that is unlikely to ever be broken.
Today we kick this weekend off with a walk through the streets of the impressive Naples to get one of the best pizzas in the world and some beers!
Matchday! Napoli is currently the most exciting team in the world. Epitomising their city with an intense, exhilarating, no-holds-barred style of football. They take risks which makes them so thrilling to watch. But they take risks because they have been coached well and the players trust their team-mates’ ability. They have had the most possession in the league this season, but it’s what they do with it which makes Napoli so exciting, their attacking style of football.
We’ll kick this day off with an early breakfast before we head to some local bars around the San Paolo stadium to have a few beers. Learn more about the passion of the locals, their support for Napoli and why they consider themselves as Neapolitans instead of Italians. Naples is Napoli and Napoli is Naples.
After the match, we’ll head back to the city center to go to one of the best places in Naples to have a pizza and a beer. The giant fork and ladle hanging on the wall at this historic pizzeria were used by Sophia Loren in L’Oro di Napoli, and the kitchen made the pizze fritte sold by the actress in the film. For those who wish to discover the nightlife afterwards, there are plenty of options to have an epic night in Naples!
Spend the last day of the trip in Naples and enjoy some free time to wander around the city or have a few last drinks in a local bar before we head home after an incredible weekend in Naples.
