Milan is attractive and charming with a vibe that balances old-world romance and history with urban grit and cosmopolitanism. Plus, it is surrounded by some of central Europe’s most beautiful countryside. From the architecture to the food, discover what gives Milan its unique character in our list of reasons to visit the city.
The city’s beautiful and diverse architecture, traditional milanese cuisine, the famous aperitivo, design & fashion, is certainly the perfect destination for a football derby! The match between the giants AC Milan – Internazionale takes its name from the golden Virgin Mary statue which overlooks the Duomo in the city center, giving a sense of deep religious resonance. As well as the statue, the stadium in which the games are played is an intrinsic factor in the enormity of the derby.
Twice a year in Serie A, the iconic San Siro stadium is transformed into a cacophonous crucible while it stages the derby. It is the quintessential cathedral of European football and provides the perfect backdrop for one of football’s ultimate exhibitions. With the amazing San Siro, a beautiful city and a lot of history: the ingredients for an amazing derby are definitely there. Join our small group trip in March 2019, to experience one of the biggest derbies in football in Milan, an unforgettable experience.
AC MILAN v INTER MILAN
Not only do we spend countless hours planning the best itineraries, but we also try to curate groups of similar travelers to give everyone the best football experience possible. Homefans takes care of all the essentials, so that you can focus on experiencing the Milan at its best.
These are not pre-scripted, every minute scheduled “group tours.” We don’t script. We plan. So you don’t have to. And then we have a really, really good time. You can expect chill vibes, new friends and great times. We run each trip as if we were traveling with our own group – because, by the end of it, we are.
The Derby Della Madonnina is famous for being one of the most intense games in football. With banners and flags being waved all over the ground, this derby is one that is widely celebrated and creates a real spectacle, amongst the players, coaches and fans alike.
We will meet you at your top location accommodation. Now it is time either to rest or drop your bags and go have a nice walk around Piazza del Duomo. The square marks the center of the city, both in a geographic sense and because of its importance from an artistic, cultural, and social point of view.
A few meters from there, we invite you to join us on a very traditional Italian dinner, in a place that only locals go. Believe us, they are crazy about food, and we a pretty sure you are going to love it! Later on, we’ll take you to a neighborhood where we can find the best bars in town, drink some birras and why not extend to some of the best Italian nightclubs?!
Match Day! The Derby della Madonnina is more than a mere fixture. It is a tradition and a major sporting attraction. It is also a rivalry of unique complexity, one that has meant many different things over the years since the foundation of the two clubs that comprise it.
The match is one without the political and religious differences ingrained in other derbies around the world. Instead, it has been a rivalry defined primarily by simpler sporting merits, built on a mutual unrelenting desire for trophies and prestige. The beautiful choreography and electric atmosphere provided by the fans is absurd. Both Curva Nord and Sue are full of drums, flags, and pyros. You can see how the Italians love their clubs!
To start our “derby mode”, we will go to Casa Milano, AC Milan’s house, where inside it, you can the Museo Mondo Milan, showing AC Milan’s rich history, showcasing countless trophies, interactive video reels and allowing supporters you to relive the club’s finest moments. The Ballon d’Or awards of Kaká, Andriy Shevchenko, George Weah, Gianni Rivera, Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten all reside here, along with the seven Champions League trophies to the Rossoneri’s name.
We will experience an amazing pre-match atmosphere. AC Milan supporters stand in the south part, therefore their bars are all on that side. In the opposite side, Inter Milan fans gather together for some nice beers and pizzas before the kickoff.
After the match, we recommend having an Italian dinner to tell the great stories about the day we had. And for the brave ones, why not extend the night to a bar and enjoy the good Milan nightlife?!
On the final day of our football weekend, the best way of ending an amazing weekend is to sit down in on the best squares in the city, and enjoy a tasty pizza, sharing the great stories of the day before! After that, we believe it is time to say goodbye, pack your stuff and go back home with unforgettable memories! Skip the touristic routes and tick off one of Italian biggest derbies in Milan off the beaten path.
During your weekend, you will be staying in a quality 3* hotel in the center of Milan (Twin Room) with daily breakfast included. The accommodation is a traditional standard room, air-conditioned and equipped with a private bathroom. Only accommodations where we ourselves would love to wake up will make it to the final cut.
