We just got back from our Ultimate Argentina trip in Buenos Aires to experience the Argentinian football culture the local way. Meet Maarten Mensinga, who was in Buenos Aires to tick off probably the biggest trip on his football bucket list!
Here’s his story:
1. Can you tell us something about yourself?
My name is Maarten Mensinga, 25 years old, and a teacher on a high school in Amsterdam. Apart from teaching, I love to be up to date with the actual news around football, and especially my club AZ Alkmaar.
2. Which trips are still on your bucket list?
I’d love to go and experience the Moscow Derby in Russia between Spartak Moscow v CSKA Moscow. Matches in the lower divisions of England is also something that I like to watch. In the lower divisions in England, the local passion and football culture is much more alive than for example in the Premier League. I’d also love to tick off the Derby Sevillano between Sevilla v Real Betis in the near future.
3. You traveled to Argentina with us in March. Why did you choose to travel with us to Argentina?
As a football fan, you normally can only see those games on the TV or the Internet. I knew if I would never go to Argentina, I would regret it for the rest of my life. After I got permission from work, I booked the Ultimate Argentina trip with Homefans on the same day. These sort of trips are unforgettable.
4. What is the reason why you like to travel with Homefans?
Homefans shows a part of football culture around destinations, that you normally don’t see as a visitor. At Millwall v Leeds United earlier this season, we were hosted by the club with a super enthusiastic host. The former players from Millwall told us amazing stories about the club and warmed us up for the match. After this stadium tour, we went to the supporters bar with supporters from Millwall to have a few drinks before the match. You really experience football through local eyes, it’s amazing.
