Football is a pretty big deal here in the UK. Up north, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City all play within roughly 30 miles of each other. Down in London, however, anyone would be forgiven for thinking it’s just one big footie fest, with no less than six Premier League and 4 Championship clubs calling the capital home!
Out of these ones, one stands out: West Ham, based in Stratford, East London. They are currently in the Premier League, the top tier of English football, and host matches at the London Stadium, having moved from their former home the Boleyn Ground in 2016. Who never wanted to listen to the team anthem, “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles”?
The origins of West Ham’s links with organised football-related violence starts in the 1960s with the establishment of The Mile End Mob (named after an area of the East End of London). During the 1970s and 1980s (the main era for organised football-related violence), West Ham gained further notoriety for the levels of hooliganism in their fan base and antagonistic behaviour towards both their own and rival fans, and the police.
In this matchday experience, you will meet our English Speaking Homefans Local Host Tom in the afternoon at Upton Park Station. He will take you around where the old stadium used to be, show some player murals, statues, explain the history of the club, and of course, go for a pint in the famous Boleyn Pub!
After that, we will head to the pub in Stratford for pre-match beers. Take this time to meet West Ham supporters and get to know them! Then, we will walk to the stadium, take some pictures, stop by the club’s store and Tom will escort you to your seats. Enjoy some world-class Premier League football!
After the game, for the ones who want to extend the night, we will go to Shoreditch / Brick Lane, an area of East London you can have an amazing night out. There are hundreds of different bars to go and various pubs /restaurants!
Meeting Point: Upton Park Station
Homefans believe that stadiums will be open to fans, however we cannot at this stage confirm what the capacity will be. However our flexible booking policies mean that if the stadium will only accept 50% fans and you decide you only want to travel with 100% attendance you can swap to another venue or another date.
This will vary destination to destination and based on your nationality and age. Therefore Homefans are not able to advise on this. Please check the foreign ministry of your destination and home country and the stadium requirements. Again, if you find the requirements too much you can defer to later in the season/year when they relax further.
We believe so, we all need something to look forward to. But we understand that people may be apprehensive which is why we have created a flexible cancellation policy which means in the event that the event does not happen the amount paid simply becomes Homefans credit.
You can transfer this to a later date (with no time limit), transfer to another tour, or even give it to a friend. This flexibility also applies if you decide to cancel for any reason (as long as you give us 45 days notice)
If we know where you will be sitting we always mention this is in the inclusions section.
Unfortunately we are not always able to tell you that at the time of booking, however our destination managers work tirelessly to make sure you get the best seats. We always aim for the long side of the home supporters section.
The maximum number of people the host will allow is stated above. However this number may not always be met and it may even be possible that your party is on the tour on your own. Higher numbers make for a more sociable experience, lower numbers make for more personalised attention from your host. Look at it as a win/win!
If we can accept children there will be an option in the booking flow. However for many trips our local hosts take the decision, based on the content of the tour, to open this up to adults only. If you are looking to travel with under 18’s, please feel free to contact us and we can discuss your options.
Weekend matches can move from Saturday to Sunday and vice-versa. We provide the current scheduled date but we would advise you only to book the matchday experience if you are available in the destination for the whole weekend.
