Hi guys! My name is Alex and I can’t wait to show you the amazing Yankee Stadium from outside!
The iconic name is synonymous with New York and is one of the most famous stadiums in the US. It is home to the New York Yankees, the most successful team in Major League Baseball history, with 27 championships. New York City FC, founded in 2015, have begun playing here as well in MLS. What few realize is that the footballing history of Yankee Stadium goes back much further, nearly 100 years!
I’m both a Yankees fan and a soccer fan, so on this tour, I’ll be taking visitors through some baseball and soccer history. I’ll begin the tour on the platform of the nearby 161st Subway station, from which you have a great view of Yankee Stadium. Next, I’ll walk around the ballpark, showing its impressive exterior, especially the grand entryway of its main gate. While walking around the stadium, I’ll spend roughly 15 minutes on a synopsis of the Yankees’ history and some of their most famous players, such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera.
Next, I’ll discuss the soccer history of Yankee Stadium, European and South American teams visiting NYC on tour. I’ll then examine the succession of New York teams: including the Generals, the Cosmos, and NYC FC. I’ll also describe the history of NY Red Bulls and their lovely ground, Red Bull Arena, as well as Queensboro FC, which is set to start playing in 2022. Come with me as we visit the ground known by locals simply as “The Stadium.”
