Hi guys! My name is Adrien and I am passionate about the famous Sunday League in London!
For some people Sunday morning is for brunch, but for footy heads it is for Sunday League. When it comes to Sunday League in London, Hackney Marshes is the temple for it. Home of the grassroots game for more than a century, the 82 pitches have seen tons of amateurs playing every Sunday morning. It has also seen young talents like David Beckham or Harry Kane scoring their first goals in youth teams.
Hackney & Leyton Sunday League is made of 5 divisions of football lovers who play for the love of the game every week. Some of them think about it all week and other ones are just out of their Saturday night party. It’s where the pure English football folklore is.
Hackney Marshes carry also a lot of history. It has been the spiritual home of Sunday football for decades. At its peak, in the 50s there was 120 pitches and 2,500 players involved. It is also a screenshot of what London is today: a mix of different communities all connected through football.
Join me for a morning of in the heart of real football followed with an afternoon at the pub where the teams usually gather to watch Premier League.
