In the center of Buenos Aires lives one of the clubs with the most history of Argentine football. Known for having lived through his greatest period of glory in the ’80s where he faced the greats like Boca Juniors and River Plate as equals, threatening to dethrone them from the maximum pedestal and becoming champion twice.
In 1981 it was the only team capable of threatening Diego Armando Maradona’s only title with the Boca jersey. A year later the team was able to reach the top undefeated in the 1982 Nacional and two years later the party made River bitter by defeating it 4-0 on aggregate at the 1984 Nacional.
Ferro Carril Oeste is a model Club. In 1988 it was recognized by UNESCO for the purpose of “rewarding the eminent services rendered to physical education and sport”, in a decade in which the Caballito institution broke membership records and also achieved its greatest achievements in soccer, basketball and volleyball, among the many disciplines it had.
After so much glory, Ferro began to fall. In 2000, with two consecutive declines until reaching the third division of Argentine soccer, and in 2002 when it suffered institutional bankruptcy.
Thanks to the unstoppable work of its fans, Ferro returned to the hands of its partners in 2014, and since then it has been building its restructuring in search of returning to the First Division and being the recognized social club that it used to be.
