Hi! I’m Tomás Gonzalez and I’m homefans’ local host in Argentinos Juniors -Diego Armando Maradona’s first club. As any other supporter of my club, I’m very proud of the history and the legacy of our institution, which is the craddle of the future Argentinean football stars. I’m also a historian who specialises in football and contemporary history and I love sharing years of knowledge acquired (from both the terraces and the books and magazines) with our visitors!
The Diego Armando Maradona Stadium is the house of the first division side Argentinos Juniors, and it is the same ground in which Diego played his first professional match in october 1976 (at the age of 15). It is located right in the heart of Buenos Aires, within the lovely neighbourhood of La Paternal in which the club has been located since the 1920s. We like to think we’re quite a unique team, because we’ve been able to mantain our local identity and the neighbourhood scale even after we were among the top teams in Argentina after revealing to the world several talents such as Diego himself, Sergio Batista, Bichi Borghi, Fernando Redondo, Esteban Cambiasso, Juan Pablo Sorin, Juan Román Riquelme, Lucas Biglia, Lucas Barrios, Alexis Mac Allister, Nicolás González and so many others.
I’ve been working continuously in the stadium’s museum El Templo del Fútbol since december 2015. After several months of a successful partnership between me and homefans, I’ve decided to offer this unique matchday experience through this platform. In this special matchday experience you’ll get to know one of the most historical grounds in argentinean football (considered sacred soil by the Maradoneans!) from the same hand of someone that actually works for the club on a daily basis. Unlike any other, I can offer you the real deal-first hand experience, going behind the scenes when it is available and discovering everything we can visit (from the museum to the VIP terrace). It also includes the story of the working class neighbourhood and it’s diverse community, the relationship between the club and it’s people, an approach to the food and beverages consumed by the locals -and the match itself, of course!
The tours are thougt for small groups of people so you can enjoy a more personal experience. They include a private transfer from your hotel, tickets for the members terrace and a snack.

Will the stadiums be open in 2021/22? At what capacity?

Homefans believe that stadiums will be open to fans, however we cannot at this stage confirm what the capacity will be.  However our flexible booking policies mean that if the stadium will only accept 50% fans and you decide you only want to travel with 100% attendance you can swap to another venue or another date.

Will I need to prove I am vaccinated? Or show a negative test?

This will vary destination to destination and based on your nationality and age. Therefore Homefans are not able to advise on this.  Please check the foreign ministry of your destination and home country and the stadium requirements.  Again, if you find the requirements too much you can defer to later in the season/year when they relax further.

COVID-19 hasn’t gone away- should I still book?

We believe so, we all need something to look forward to.  But we understand that people may be apprehensive which is why we have created a flexible cancellation policy which means in the event that the event does not happen the amount paid simply becomes Homefans credit.

You can transfer this to a later date (with no time limit), transfer to another tour, or even give it to a friend. This flexibility also applies if you decide to cancel for any reason (as long as you give us 45 days notice)

Do I have to pay the full amount when I book?

No, you can secure your place with a deposit of just 30%, then pay the balance at least 4 weeks before your trip date depending on your destination.

Where in the stadiums will we be sitting?

If we know where you will be sitting we always mention this is in the inclusions section.

Unfortunately we are not always able to tell you that at the time of booking, however our destination managers work tirelessly to make sure you get the best seats. We always aim for the long side of the home supporters section.

How many people will be on the tour?

The maximum number of people the host will allow is stated above. However this number may not always be met and it may even be possible that your party is on the tour on your own. Higher numbers make for a more sociable experience, lower numbers make for more personalised attention from your host. Look at it as a win/win!

Can children / young adults join the tour?

If we can accept children there will be an option in the booking flow. However for many trips our local hosts take the decision, based on the content of the tour, to open this up to adults only. If you are looking to travel with under 18’s, please feel free to contact us and we can discuss your options.

Can you cater to dietary needs or requirements?

Our local hosts will do everything they can to cater to travellers’ needs. It’s a good idea to share your requirements at the time of booking so that our host is able to make the required preparations

Will I have to share a room?

In order to keep the costs low we always offer prices based on 2 sharing. If you make a booking for an odd number of people you or another member of your party may be paired with another traveller of the same sex. If you wish you may pay a supplement for a guaranteed single room. Simply make your booking as normal and get in touch with us to arrange this.
