Hey guys, I’m Luka! As you might be able to tell from my photo, I’m a Grobar, and I’m a local host for trips in Belgrade!
Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers and the crossroads of the Pannonian Plain and the Balkan Peninsula. Nearly 1.7 million people live within the administrative limits of the City of Belgrade, a quarter of the total population of Serbia.
It is often said that football is more important than life and death. The slightly hyperbolic idea is believed all across the globe, but it takes on a literal meaning in Belgrade. In the Serbian capital, you are either red and white or black and white. This is the story of the Eternal Derby, Europe’s fiercest footballing rivalry. The rivalry between Partizan and Red Star Belgrade is much more than just a footballing one. Both organisations across many sports, but there is as much of an ideological war being waged here as there is sporting. You can tell the importance of a subject with the ordinary people by the amount of graffiti throughout a city.
This tour will be guided by me, Luka. We will start our tour in Dorćol. Dorćol is a neighbourhood full of Partizans fans. There you are going to see murals that are dedicated to the most famous fans of partizan with their sayings about the club. Then we are going to take the tour of the Partizan stadium “JNA”. We are going to visit the club museum. There you can take photos of the stadium and we are going to go to the fan’s store.
Our next stop is Rajko Mitić, previously known as Marakana. That’s the stadium of Red Star. As you are approaching the stadium you will see that every wall is painted in red and white. After that, we are going to take a tour of the stadium and the museum. There you can take photos of the stadium and we are going to go to the fan’s store.
When we finish the tours we will go to the nearby cafe and drink local beer. There we will have a quick quiz about what you saw today and the winners will get one round on me 🙂
Hope to hear from you very soon.
