A year-round travel destination and Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow is a cultural epicentre and magnet for creatives. A UNESCO City Of Music, with an unrivalled gastronomic scene, a bucket load of the trendiest galleries and museums, and or course: football! Less of a sport and more of a way of life, football and its colourful local heritage is very much ingrained into the Glasgow social psyche.
To call this one a mere disagreement between two religious divides would be to massively under-sell the British’ biggest derby: Old Firm between Celtic v Rangers is something else. Social, economic, political and sectarian tensions have combined to make this a unique fixture in world football, one which was almost banned in the 1930s in order to reduce the crime rate following the rise of Glasgow’s street gangs.
While these tensions are not as prevalent as they were, it has done little to dampen the flames of this rivalry, one which the much-travelled Paolo Di Canio described: “You could take all the derby matches in the world and put them together and they still wouldn’t equal one-millionth of the Old Firm. There’s nothing like it.”
We will begin the tour at Ibrox Stadium, where an English Speaking Local Host will host and welcome you to Rangers FC. You will have a 1-hour Stadium Tour through the main areas of the ground, such as dressing rooms, press conference and of course, the pitch.
After that, we will stroll by subway to Celtic Park, as known as “Paradise”. Over there, an amazing Stadium Tour through the history of the club and their rivalry against Rangers. We are moving sides!
To finish off perfectly, we will head by subway to the city center, where our Local Host will stop by his favourite Pub and of course, invite you for a 3 sample Whisky Tasting. We will be sharing good moments and telling stories about the day and football in general. Unfortunately, it is the end of the tour!
