Hi, this is Aitor, born and raised in Bilbao. I´ve followed Athletic Club since my birth and one of my first memories is the celebration of our last domestic Championship back in 1984. I was sitting over my father´s shoulders clapping a group of men who sailed the river of Bilbao on a small boat that looked like it was going to sink. Next to me was the entire region of Bizkaia.
In this amazing bike tour we would invite you to discover our city through football, and through our football team specifically, Athletic Club of Bilbao, one of the oldest Spanish Club where only use Basque Players since the beginning and never relegated in its history. We are going to know where it all began at the end of the 19th century, just at the same point where other of Bilbao’s highlights is currently located: Guggenheim Museum. We will know too, what is the meaning of “gabarra”, and what does it mean for people from Bilbao, who was San Mames, the saint who gives its name to the stadium, and how palpable is the British influence both in the football club, as well as in the architecture and appearance of the city.
Once you understand the importance and pride of Athletic Club to its citizens and the connection between the club and our traditions and culture, we will be ready to visit San Mames Stadium, the cathedral of football, considered the best sports building in the whole world. Over there, we would have the choice to visit the museum and enjoy the Stadium Tour knowing first hand the main characters who have written the history of the Club.
